ABOUT MESERET FOR WOMEN

Founded by Rachel and Tom Duke and Weinab Seyfu in 2016, Meseret for Women is a charity providing care and assistance for vulnerable women in Ethiopia to provide new mothers with support, self-worth and skills so they are able to support their children.

Having been through the process of adopting a child from Ethiopia we experienced first hand the plight of many impoverished and often reluctant new mothers living rough on the streets of Addis. Meseret for Women has established a refuge in Addis where these women are able to break free from the vicious cycle of poverty. They are given time to bond with their child and also learn a trade that can help them find paid work rather than going back to a life on the streets.

Managed locally by Weinab Seyfu who, as well as being instrumental in the establishment of Meseret for Women in Addis, was invaluable to us in the often impenetrable adoption process in Ethiopia.

“Vulnerable women often find themselves pregnant and unable to fully support a newborn child. It is our aim to allow these women the time to develop a bond with their child in a caring environment to break this cycle.” – Rachel Duke, founder.
